Govt to boost sports at village, block level

To encourage youth to take up sports, the Haryana sports and youth affairs department has appointed coaches in 2,476 villages and 48 blocks under the Panchayat Yuva Krida aur Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA) scheme.

To encourage youth to take up sports, the Haryana sports and youth affairs department has appointed coaches in 2,476 villages and 48 blocks under the Panchayat Yuva Krida aur Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA) scheme.

Village pachayats would be provided with sports kits for Rs 1 lakh each, a spokesperson said in a release on Monday. Besides, a basketball poll, a volleyball poll, four basketball nets, three volleyball nets, footballs and weight-training sets will be provided.

Honorarium to trainers and coaches in sports complexes had been increased from Rs 500 to Rs 3,000, the spokesperson said.

In Sirsa district, coaches have been appointed in 225 villages. In view of the increasing interest in hockey in the district, the state government has approved an Astroturf ground in Jiwannagar to be constructed for Rs 5 crore.
