To make this possible, the authorities will soon deploy GPS/GSM based train tracking system, which will disseminate on-line information to the passengers.

Besides, the information will also be disseminated through the plasma screens to be installed at the railway platforms. The system-- Satellite Imaging and Rail Navigation (SIMRAN) has been developed jointly by Research and Development Standard Organisation (RDSO), Lucknow and IIT-Kanpur.

Talking to HT Allahabad Live, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Allahabad, SK Chowdhary, said, "The system comprises GPS/GSM device which will be installed in train locomotive as well as on the platforms. The device will help communicate the information about all the trains passing through the station, to central server located at IIT-Kanpur".

Later, the central server will be placed in New Delhi, too, he said. The data so collected shall be disseminated automatically to the plasma screens that will be installed at the platforms besides it will be disseminated to the already existing devices at the platforms such as train timing LED display board, announcement system and touch screen, said the DRM.

In this regard, trials are under way between Allahabad-Kanpur section besides Kanpur-Lucknow . Director of IIT-Kanpur and project investigator Professor SG Dhande presented live demonstration at the DRM office here on Thursday.

Till now, the information is fed in the systems manually by receiving it from central control. But with the introduction of new system , the position of the trains could be visualised and the information could be seen at the website which would be notified after successful trail, said Chowdhary.

A budget of Rs 2 crore has been sanctioned jointly by Ministry of Railways and Ministry of Human Resource Development for the project, said the DRM.
