Lagaan was the kind of launchpad that tinsel dreams are made of. But poor Gracy Singh merely had the hit tag under her belt, in reality Aamir Khan and Ashutosh Gowarikar gave her the royal ignore.

Not that Singh went complaining. She kept a low profile, sat home reading scripts and waiting for a good comeback vehicle.

Singh isn't ungrateful. She acknowledges Lagaan as the film that shaped "my destiny. Being chosen in a role which was originally offered to actresses like Aishwarya Rai and Nandita Das was an honour. I knew Gauri wouldn't be part of the side show. How many actresses have a role as strong as hers in their debut films? I am no star daughter but I did get my hour of glory with Lagaan. I can't thank Aamir and Ashutosh enough for giving me a chance to be part of a film which made history."

Singh admits that being selective was a sensible decision. "I committed myself to three films: Prakash Jha's Gangaa Jal, Honey Irani's Armaan (co-starring Preity Zinta and Anil Kapoor) and a remake of the Telugu hit Badri, opposite Tusshar Kapoor. All the films have shaped up wonderfully,"she points out.

Singh particularly loves her role in Armaan. "Neha Mathur, the character I play is a dedicated lady doctor for whom work is worship. It was great working with such fantastic actors like Amitabh Bachchan and Anil Kapoor. I've admired Mr Bachchan for as long as I can remember, working with him made me so nervous. The first day I was chewing my nails off just watching him on the sets,"confesses Singh.

Delhi girl Singh turned her back on television (she was part of the long running soap, Amanat on Zee TV) after Lagaan landed in her kitty: "Straddling two different media is not my cup of tea." Singh might love film trophies but she's actually looking forward o doing some "good roles."
