The grenade exploded in the compound of the house of Noor Mohammad Khan, a businessman, barely a few meters from the headquarters of 49th battalion of CRPF in the area, they said.

They said the grenade was apparently meant to target the CRPF camp but it missed and exploded in the compound of Khan, resulting in damage to several three-wheelers parked there.

However, CRPF spokesperson P Tripathy said, "Khan could also have been the target of the attack owing to some business rivalry."

"It is a matter of investigation," he added.

Senior police officers visited the scene of the explosion and collected splinters.

"There was no casualty in the explosion," a police official of the Shaheed Gunj police station said, adding a case has been registered.

A Hizbul Mujahideen spokesperson called up news organisations to claim responsibility for the attack and said, "CRPF personnel suffered some casualties in the incident."
