The power plant of the company at Angul, about 161 km from in Bhubaneswar, has eight running units.

Six units managed to survive, the company official told IANS.

NALCO's captive power at Damanjodi in Koraput district also faced some disruption, he added.

Most parts of Odisha remained without electricity for at least two hours after the grid failure, state energy minister Aatanu Sabyasachi told reporters.

He said the government however managed to restore the supply in less than three hours drawing excess electricity from state's hydro-power generation stations.

Due to the power failure, train services in East Coast Railway jurisdiction were disrupted for about one and half hours. The services however resumed fully at about 4.30pm, a railway official said.
