“James D’Souza has surrendered before Judicial Magistrate First Class in Pernem this morning. We were given his custody at noon,” Pernem police station inspector Sanjay Dalvi said.

The 25-year-old Russian woman had alleged that she was raped by D’Souza at his guest house on April 28.

In the complaint filed with Pernem police station, the victim had alleged that D’Souza entered the room using a master key and raped her in the wee hours when she was asleep.

The accused went missing after the complaint was lodged.

“We will be producing him before the court again to get the remand,” Dalvi said.

Goa tourism minsiter Dilip Parulekar had on Monday said that failure to nab the accused was a shame for the state.

He had also said that he would be writing to Home department asking police to expedite the investigation.
