The firm also promised a job to the brother of the deceased. The relief would be in addition to an insurance cover of Rs 3 lakh that the deceased’s family would get in due course of time, said the company spokesperson.

The announcement came after HT carried a story on Monday on how the company washed their hands off the incident after paying Rs 7,000 to the aggrieved family.

In a written statement, the DGSCL said, “As a company we have been in close touch with Umeshkant’s family in their time of grief and have taken care of the necessities like taking the body to his native place and helping the family to take care of the last rites. DSC Limited has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for Umeshkant’s family. As all our employees are insured as per company policy, we are speedily processing the insurance claims so that the additional Rs 3 lakh could be made available to the family at the earliest.”

Apart from providing monetary compensation, the firm is also considering the option of offering employment to the deceased’s brother if he is eligible and interested.

The expressway concessionaire firm said it has extended full cooperation and support to its staff to ensure safety on the expressway. Camera footage and pictures, taken from both inside and outside the toll booth, were shared with the authorities.
