The stretch on Mehrauli Gurgaon Road, better known as MG Road, outside the MGF and City Centre Malls, offers interesting hangout, shopping and munching options for people in Gurgaon. So, this weekend, you can plan to take some time off your mall hopping and head to this area for a different experience.
Street-licious
The lane outside MGF Mall turns into a mini food street during the evening, with stalls selling different items. What is sure to catch your attention from far are the small oil lamps, arranged in a row. You can start your street-side snacking by feasting on dal
pakodas, which are sold by Chetram Singh on a cart every evening. A plate of 10 ladoos with grated radish and mint chutney can be had for Rs 20. Since this dish is not that easily found in Gurgaon, it is a hit with visitors to the mall. Those who don’t like spicy stuff can have a plate of boiled eggs or bread omelette for Rs 12 to Rs 20 at the next stall.
The place is quite famous with youngsters from nearby colonies, who often come here to hang out in the evening. Other things available here are chowmein for Rs 10 and momos at Rs 20 for half a plate. While here, you will also come across some hawkers selling roasted sweet potato for Rs 20 a plate.
On a sweet note
The small cart set up by Vinod Sahni between the Vipul Agora Mall and the First India Place sells a plate of piping hot Gajar Ka Halwa or Gulab Jamuns at Rs 10.
Some shopping too
As you walk ahead towards Sahara Mall, you will come across a woman selling old-world angithis. Reasonably priced between Rs 150 to Rs 500, these angithis can be used both inside and outside the house. Many people buy them when they have a terrace party at their homes. You can also get them filled with coal for Rs 40 per kg. Autar Singh, the seller, also has a range of wooden jewellry boxes, bottle holders, and stools for Rs 50 to Rs 300. If you still want some energy, stock up on some idli-vada (Rs 20) or onion uttapam (Rs 40) at the dosa centre near Sahara Mall parking between 11am to 11pm.
