Gustad's co-accused cop got promotion

For Darshana Waiti, the co-accused in the Nadia Khan accidental death case and constable of the Government Railway Police (GRP), the arrest came at a most inappropriate time.

Commissioner of Police (GRP) Shrikant Sawarkar on Tuesday signed an order promoting Waiti as police naik, and less than 24 hours later, Sawarkar had to direct his men to arrest Waiti on conspiracy charges in the Nadia case after her alleged involvement came into light.
Waiti's four-year-old career thus seems to be heading to an abrupt end unless she gets a reprieve from the court. Darshana Waiti is posted at Mahalaxmi police station and senior GRP officials denied media reports which stated that she was deputed along with Gustad's crew on May 25.
On that day, Waiti rushed to the spot where Nadia was knocked down by a suburban train, after the station master at Mahalaxmi station made an announcement about the accident on a public address system, GRP Commissioner, Shrikant Sawakar said.
By that time Nadia had been removed off the track, and Waiti accompanied Gustad's crew to Nair hospital to enable speedy treatment to her, he added. "It was at the hospital that Waiti gave false information about the accident, allegedly at the behest of the crew members", Sawarkar further said.
It is a matter of investigation how Waiti got influenced by the crew members, the senior police official said. Although released on bail by court, Waiti now also faces a departmental action.
