HC directive on villagers plea against jallikattu

The Madras High Court Bench in Madurai has directed the Madurai District Collector to consider objections raised by a group of villagers from Keelapatti near Madurai agaist the permission granted to another group for conducting “jallikattu” (bull fight) on June 8.

The Madras High Court Bench in Madurai has directed the Madurai District Collector to consider objections raised by a group of villagers from Keelapatti near Madurai agaist the permission granted to another group for conducting “jallikattu” (bull fight) on June 8.

In a petition, the villagers had apprehended that the jallikattu might lead to caste clash in the village.

Disposing of the pettion, a Division Bench comprising Justice V Periya Karuppiah and Justice G M Akbar Ali directed the Collector to hear the petitioner.
