The head priest of the temple Avadesh Maharaj along with his two assistants tried to stop the slum-dweller from building the structure following which he attacked them with a knife and stabbed the priest thrice, police said.

While Maharaj died on way to hospital, the assistant is still undergoing treatment, police added.

A case has been registered against the slum-dweller who is absconding, police said.
