Frequent tripping of power supply and low water pressure added to the woes of the people in the north-west region.

While Amritsar in Punjab with a high of 44.2 degree celsius was four degrees above normal, Hisar in Haryana also touched 44.2 degree celsius which was two degrees above normal, a MET office spokesman said here.

Ludhiana reeled under a high of 42.9 degree celsius, the mercury touched 42.6 degrees celsius in Patiala and 41.7 degree celsius in Ambala.

The city of Chandigarh had a maximum temperature of 41.4 degree celsius, two degrees above normal.

The MET office has predicted no respite from the heat conditions as the weather would mainly remain dry in the region in the next 48 hours.

No death has been reported in Punjab and Haryana due to heat conditions.
