Heavy rains in Vidarbha, road traffic disrupted

Heavy rains lashed eastern Vidarbha, disrupting vehicular traffic in some places with Gadchiroli district being the worst affected as rivers were in spate in the area, officials said on Tuesday.

Places like Aheri, Sironcha and Etapalli were affected as the Aheri-Etapalli, Sironcha-Mulchera and Aheri-Bhamragarh roads were closed to vehicular traffic due to the overflowing of rivers in these areas, police said.

This morning, police rescued four fishermer who were washed away on Monday evening and took shelter on a big rock in Ghodegaon.

Police had launched a rescue mission using motor boats yesterday but had to abandon the effort due to heavy rains and the overflowing river. Efforts were on to bring the fishermen back to their village.

In Chandrapur district, heavy rains disrupted normal life and the Irai dam is overflowing, officials said.

Heavy rains were also reported from parts of east Vidarbha, including Bhandara and Gondia.
