On Friday evening, Fiji High Commissioner Luke Rokovada and his wife Vani hosted a party to celebrate the 34th National Day of the Republic of Fiji Islands at the The Taj Palace.
“The National Day is a significant and prosperous day for us and we are honoured to celebrate this occasion. Though our National Day is celebrated on October 10, we decided to celebrate it here on Friday because it suited our guests,” said the High Commissioner. Said his wife: “India is similar to Fiji, in terms of food and people. For us, celebrating the day in India is like celebrating it at home.”

The Chief Guest for the evening was E. Ahamed, Minster of State for External Affairs. The evening grew pleasant as the guests settled in for the night after the Indian and the Fiji national anthems were played. The dinner followed.
“We are trying to improve relations with other countries. Celebrating the Fiji National Day with the High Commissioner and his wife is a perfect way to do so. We’ve signed a bond worth millions of dollars with them and we hope this will strengthen our relationship,” said Ahamed.
Those spotted enjoying the evening included Ambassador of Bhutan Dago Tshering, Republic Of China Ambassador Hua Junduo, Mauritius High Commissioner Usha Dwarka Canabady, Kenya High Commissioner H. Mutuma Kathurima EBS, and New Zealand High Commissioner Graeme Waters.
