In an exclusive chat, Katiyar, who was on way to Mati, Dehat district headquarters, said the formation of the Hindu League should not be taken as division of Hindu votes. He claimed that when compared to other political parties, the BJP worked the most for the welfare of Hindus. He added that the Hindu League would act as an inspiration for the BJP.
On criticism of the BJP, he said that people had great expectations from the party when it assumed power as its leaders had raised the bar. He admitted that BJP fell short of the people’s expectation and blamed it on unfavourable circumstances. Clarifying further, Katiyar said when NDA came to power at the Centre the circumstances had gone for the worst.
However, he said the party tried its best to overcome the shortcomings. In support of his claims, he said cow slaughter was banned in all BJP-ruled States.
He said a changed curriculum brought students “closer to great men of the country”. He said the BJP inculcated the feeling among Hindus that they were part of the mainstream. He added that the saffron party reminded Muslims that neither they do have a separate entity in the country, nor was it possible. On Ayodhya imbroglio, Katiyar said the BJP turned the temple issue into a mass movement.
