STRONG FAITH in your guru’s teachings coupled with being rooted in tradition can build successful corporate brands. And this recipe for success comes from no management guru but from “Vandana Luthra Curls and Curves” (VLCC) — India’s fastest growing global health, fitness and beauty brand in the global marketplace..

Vandana Luthra, chairperson of VLCC group of companies, feels her early lessons in yoga provided by her late guru Swami Dayanandji made her understand the importance of good health early in her life.

“I practice Pranayam and do Surya Namaskar every day. Besides this, I know many more Yoga exercises coupled with the fact that I can make certain herbal medicines myself while using the knowledge of vedic formulations. And most important of all —- the VLCC centres in India and abroad offer advice to customers on the importance of yoga in everyday life while delivering truly global quality health, fitness and beauty services to its customers. Please don’t forget again that all the inspiration to work for better health of the people comes from my late Guruji whose yoga teachings were imbibed by me when I was only 12 years old”, she told HT Lucknow Live.

Her ambition? To make the already successful VLCC join the Rs 1,000 crore turnover league of world’s finest companies by year 2010. “I am against young girls going to beauty saloons and asking to get their long hair cut. I am against use of funky colours with harmful chemicals being used in hair as they might damage good hair. We need to preserve Indian culture,” Vandana says.

The VLCC’s mantra for success right now is not just ensuring weight loss among obese people. Rather it is to follow a “holistic approach” of achieving a “head to toe” transformation among health conscious citizens. The entire secret of being transformed into a different person is to feel good, look good and become confident about oneself, she says.

On the concept of dieting, Vandana offers some practical advices: “Weight loss is not about going on a crash diet or not eating at all. It’s all about eating the right kind of food”.

“VLCC now focuses a lot on use of organic food in its centres across the globe.

There are women who are in the age of 40 to 50 years going through hormonal changes with thyroid and other related problems. It is imperative that these women focus on a diet which can make them maintain excellent health even during the menopausal stage”, she says.

“ A lot of my efforts these days is going into teaching people the importance of good health. Mind you, it’s not for money. It’s that personal concern for ensuring good health among the people which has driven VLCC to focus on education in a big way,” Vandana says.

“We have launched programmes on health and nutrition in our institute which till now were being only taught outside India. I feel that nutrition needs to be in the curriculum of every school and college in the country,” she adds.
