HIV positive man says he had unprotected sex with 300 women

When the police pressed hard to learn about other crimes committed by him, James confessed that he went on a sex spree after testing positive for HIV eight months ago

A 31-year-old man confessed to the police on Monday that he had unprotected sex with around 300 women, after learning that he had contracted AIDS, according to a New Indian Express report.

Joseph James, a Secundrabad based auto-driver, was caught by the police on Monday night for stealing gold from his friend’s house. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and the police later recovered the stolen items.

“We recovered from his possession five tolas (approximately 50 grams) of gold”, M Ravichandan Reddy, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Malkajgiri) told the PTI.

However, when the police pressed hard to learn about other crimes committed by him, James confessed that he went on a sex spree after testing positive for HIV eight months ago.

“The medical examination has confirmed that he (the accused) is HIV positive,” Reddy said.

“The auto driver also claimed he visits prostitutes daily and has illicit affairs with several other women, with whom he practiced unsafe sex even after realising about his disease,” Uppal inspector Khaja Moinuddin told a leading Indian daily.

However, the police have ‘not received any complaint from affected women’, the PTI said, quoting police sources.

The accused has been remanded in judicial custody.
