Parliament witnessed another eventful day as the Lok Sabha passed the Vande Mataram Bill, which provides additional legal protection to the national song, amid noisy protests by Opposition MPs. The Bill was passed din after only a handful of members participated in the debate, with several speeches cut short due to continuous disruptions in the House.
Meanwhile, the Rajya Sabha continued its discussion on the Anti-Paper Leak Bill, which seeks stricter penalties and reforms to curb examination malpractices. The legislation is expected to be passed soon.
The passage of the Vande Mataram Bill marks the first Bill passed din during the ongoing Monsoon Session. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju had earlier indicated that the government could resort to passing legislation din if repeated disruptions prevented normal debates.
