Reports said Jyoti, 45, wife of Om Prakash Gupta of Gangala village underwent surgery for removal of a stomach tumour at the private hospital. Soon after the operation, the woman’s condition started deteriorating. She was referred to another hospital in Varanasi, but died on the way.

Angry family members went back to the hospital with her body.

The disappearance of the doctor and other employees fuelled the anger of the relatives.

They ransacked the hospital and set furniture ablaze.

They were planning to set a medical shop afire when the Baragaon station officer rushed to the spot and foiled their attempt.

The police resorted to a mild lathicharge to bring the situation under control.
The family members of the woman gave a written complaint to the police, accusing the doctor and the hospital staff of medical negligence.
