They beat up hospital employees and damaged window panes and furniture.

However, timely police intervention prevented further violence.

Police took surgeon Dr Sushil Chandra into custody. He was produced in court and granted bail.

After police removed protesters from the hospital, they moved towards the university crossing and the roadways crossing where they started pelting buses with stones and tried to block traffic.

Police used mild force to disperse the mob.

According to sources, Mira Devi (42), wife of Ran Vijay Rao, resident of Balkuan under Hata police station in Deoria district, was admitted to the nursing home for uterus removal. After an operation by Dr Chandra, the patient was to be discharged on Monday. Around 9 am, a compounder gave an injection to the patient to check internal bleeding.

Sources said soon afterwards, the condition of the patient became serious.

Despite their best efforts, doctors failed to save her.

Sources said the injection caused a severe reaction and led to the patient’s death.

The attendants of the patient then beat up the hospital staff. They also tried to manhandle Dr Chandra. Other staff managed to escape from the scene.

Policemen were deployed at the hospital and a case was filed against Dr Sushil Chandra under Section 304A of the IPC.
