OUT OF the electronic meters supplied by various meter manufacturing companies, meters of HPL Company installed in Indore city were found running fast consequently complaint was made to MP State Electricity Board (MPSEB) and now the Board has taken up the matter with HPL.

Talking to Hindustan Times, MP Western Region Electricity Distribution Company superintending engineer K S Vyas said that speed of the meter is not altered without tampering with it. He however, added that in some cases there is manufacturing defect, which makes the meter fast.

He informed that primary reason of change in speed of meter is due to application of magnet on it. This is done by the consumer to reduce the speed of the meter. He opined that owing to application of magnet, gears of the motor are disturbed and its alignment is also disturbed. Consequently after removal of the magnet there is no control on the speed of meter.

He further said that some of the meters were unapproachable in the City, hence there was possibility of tampering with them, so these meters have been shifted to an approachable place. He averred that meters of the City are being covered with box to prevent tampering with them.

He revealed that meters are now issued to field for installation after testing in LTMT lab which has reduced the complaint of fast meters considerably.

Other meter manufacturing companies, which supply meters to the Western Region Electricity Distribution Company are Elymer, Genus, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited etc.
