Sources informed that during routine vehicle checking, the cops on duty stopped a vehicle late on Saturday. The driver of the vehicle is reported to have fled the scene after abandoning the vehicle.

According to Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) RN Yadav, the vehicle was searched thoroughly and a large quantity of detonators and some explosives were recovered.

He said the bomb disposal squad had been rushed to the spot to defuse the explosives. There were reports that the detonators and explosives were also used for blasting mines in the hilly areas of Mirzapur. But this was a subject for investigation, the DIG said.

Inspector General of Police Varanasi zone KL Meena also confirmed recovery of a huge quantity of detonators and ammunition from inside a vehicle in Mirzapur.
There are reports that about 1,500 detonators and two and a half quintal of explosives (power gelatin) was recovered from the vehicle under Lalganj police station in Mirzapur.
