I-Day: Kalam hosts reception at home

President APJ Abdul Kalam on Tuesday hosted a reception at Rashtrapati Bhawan on the occasion of I-Day.

Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, several cabinet ministers, civil and military officials and diplomats attended the reception on the sprawling Mughal Gardens on Tuesday evening.

Represenatives of some 100 NGOs working in different fields were special invitees of the President, who interacted with them separately. Dr Kalam asked them to work for the upliftment of the society and also improve the economic status of women.

The President freely mingled with the invitees and also posed for photographs with them.
