Dinesh Karthik isn’t bogged down by the sudden pressure of being the man-in-charge of Delhi Daredevils. But he is definitely shy while getting photographed. And it’s on his wife Nikita’s insistence that the new skipper opens up exclusively to HT City.

So, who hooked whom? This time Karthik is in first. “Of course I hooked her,” he says. “Our fathers were friends and that’s how we know each other,” adds Nikita, cosying upto her hubby for a photo.

The Daredevils might have been thrashed by the Mumbai Indians, but Dinesh says Dilliwallah’s needn’t worry. “It’s disappointing, but in a long tournament like the IPL, we’ll have some days when the other team will beat us. I assure our Delhi fans of a strong come back,” he says.

Coming from Chennai, Dinesh has adapted well to his new home. “I’m in love with Delhi and don’t miss playing for Chennai. People here are so warm and add to it the delicious food... I rarely miss my sambhar and dosa,” says the wicket-keeper. And about what he loves most about his wife, Dinesh says it’s the way she supports him. “Of course she gets anxious when I’m playing, but rarely does she criticise me,” he adds. But that doesn’t make him Nikita’s favourite! “She likes Dhoni,” he confesses.

Karthik is a Bollywood movie buff and “an Akshay Kumar and Aamir Khan fan”. But when it comes to music, he has his own biases. “Tamil music tops my playlist and O Saya is my current fav,” the new captain declares.
