I?m not worried about image: Kay Kay
The actor has shed his rugged look for Corporate, finds Diganta Guha.
"I am not worried about image. Image is temporary. I think it depends on what the audience fancies from time to time," says Kay Kay Menon, who will be seen in a new avatar in Madhur Bhandarkar’s Corporate, that hits theatres in June.
In Corporate, the rugged look that we saw in Ram Gopal Varma’s Sarkar is gone. He is the clean-shaven business scion in formal attire, ready to taken on the challenges of the corporate world.
"The film deals with corporate life - rivalry, ambitions and sacrifices," says Menon. There is a lot of emotion in the film too. "Madhur has weaved in the emotional angle with perfection," he says.
Kay Kay, who ran his own corporate filmmaking unit, says the character was not tough to portray. "In corporate life, often ambitions overpower values," he says.
In the film, both he and Bipasha are from the same corporate team, but they come from different backgrounds. While he is born into the business Bipasha, who works "with the same organisation, unlike me, rises from the ranks with her hard work".
Does the film come close to reality? "Art is different. It’s much larger than life. I think there is a lot of hypocrisy in real life," he says. Of his relationship with Bipasha, he says, "It is quite an unusual equation. It will be intriguing for the audience thanks to the way we are portrayed. The emotional aspect in the backdrop of inter-corporate competition," says the actor, who has won accolades for his performances in films like Hazaron Khwaishen Aisi, Sarkar and Dansh, to mention a few.
Menon doesn’t hesitate to shower praise on Bipasha. "She plays a Plain Jane in the film and you have to watch the film to find out how Madhur has portrayed the humane aspect through her character," says Menon.
He adds that Corporate is not just about Bipasha and him. “It has an ensemble cast, whereby everybody has contributed."
The actor is currently shooting for Reema Kagti’s Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidwani, which too has an ensemble cast - Ameesha Patel, Raima Sen, Shabana Azmi and Diya Mirza among others.
Another reason why doing Corporate wasn’t tough was the presence of Bhandarkar. "He has a very clear idea of what he is doing. Most importantly, he is in total control so that makes the job for his actors easy," says Menon, who also has Shaadab Khan’s Highway No 203 with Perizaad Zorabian.
