AS A part of the Indian Air Force (IAF) Platinum Jubilee celebrations, a comprehensive training workshop on administration of First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) was organised for air warriors by the Station Medicare Centre, Air Force Station Bamrauli on Friday.

The knowledge of first aid and life saving procedures is a must for medicos and air warriors. It can help one save a life or a limb some day. What to do if an accident victim is bleeding profusely or a person collapses or becomes unconscious, or if someone swallows poison?
These and several other emergency situations were discussed in the workshop, organised under the patronage of Group Captain Sudheer Maingi, Station Commander, Air force Station Bamrauli for personnel of Bamrauli, Manauri and Bakshi ka Talab.
Speaking on the occasion, Wing Commander Sanjeev Sood, Senior medical officer at the station, stated that with the art and science of medicine constantly evolving, there was a need to impart renewed training of proper and immediate care of those who suffered injury or sudden illness.
In a life or limb threatening situation, medical help may not arrive quickly, so the person administering first aid can make all the difference between life and death for the casualty during the initial crucial moments, known as 'golden hours' in medical parlance.
With these objectives, Air Warriors were imparted comprehensive training on concept and techniques of first aid, life saving procedures and accident prevention by way of practical demonstrations and presentations. They were also distributed handouts on algorithms based on life support. Lt Col RK Singh, a senior Anaesthetist at Military Hospital, Allahabad imparted training to medicos on advanced trauma and life support and sophisticated management strategies at the site of occurrence and in the ICU settings of a hospital.
He said that in view of the increasing rate of accidents and inhospitable terrain in which Armed forces operate, the knowledge of basic and advanced life trauma and support was need of the hour.
Station Medicare Centre has been regularly conducting series of health camps and workshops on family planning, HIV/AIDS awareness, women and child health, eye/ENT camp and comprehensive smoking cessation programmes as a part of comprehensive and quality health care of the air warriors.
