IIM-Calcutta (IIM-C) has decided to expand its physical infrastructure in three years to tackle the situation that will emerge once Parliament approves the draft bill for introducing OBC quota in higher education institutions.

This was disclosed by Prof Sekhar Chaudhuri, director, IIM-C on Tuesday. When asked on the decision of the Union Cabinet to introduce a bill in Parliament to provide 27 per cent reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in government-aided institutes of higher education like IITs and IIMs, Prof Chaudhuri said, “We need to expand and improve the level of efficiency and effectiveness. We will have to maintain a balance between efficiency and equity.”

The IIM-C board has earlier decided to increase its intake capacity in PG courses to 460 from present 300 in three years. “I am sure that we will be able to come out with a solution that will be accepted by all stake holders,” Chaudhuri added.
