They might resort to hunger strike from tomorrow in protest against the Centre’s decision. A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the members of Youth for Equality on Tuesday.

UP coordinator and spokesperson of the Y4E in the State Chandrashekhar attended the meeting. Talking to HT on phone, he condemned the lathicharge on the protesting Y4E members in New Delhi.

They were protesting against the cabinet approval of the OBC quota in higher education at government and aided institutes including IITs and IIMs.

The Union Cabinet, which met yesterday, approved the quota for OBC in these institutes in the three years time starting from the next academic session.

Although the issue was pending before the Supreme Court, the cabinet decision spawned anger among the students. As a chain of reaction, the Y4E members convened an emergency meeting and discussed the issue. During the discussion, a consensus was reached over three options.

The spokesperson of the Y4E said, “We may either go on fast from tomorrow or take mass leave or go on strike.” He said that a final decision would be taken after a meeting with the faculty members late tonight.
