Immersion of Saraswati idols peaceful
The immersion processions of Goddess Saraswati were taken out peacefully here on Saturday. More than 100 idols of the goddess were immersed in the Ganga at different ghats . The immersion processions started in the afternoon and continued till late Saturday night. Various clubs, religious organisations and academic institutions carried the idols in processions and immersed them with religious fervour.

The immersion processions started in the afternoon and continued till late Saturday night. Various clubs, religious organisations and academic institutions carried the idols in processions and immersed them with religious fervour.
The maximum number of idols were immersed at Dashashwamedh Ghat whereas some idols were also immersed at Assi Ghat, Tulsi Ghat, Samne Ghat and at other prominent ghats. Normal traffic was also badly affected in view of these processions.One could witness devotees going in processions and dancing to the tunes of vernacular and Hindi film songs. The devotees were also applying gulal and colours to each other.
Some of the clubs carried loudspeakers and music systems while others had engaged bands.After the celebration of Basant Panchami, local residents and volunteers of various clubs were seen installing ‘Holika’ in their localities.
The district administration had made elaborate security arrangements to avoid any untoward incident during the immersion of the idols. Several camps had been also set up by non-governmental organisations (NGOs) at prominent crossings for the smooth conduct of immersion.
