Indian Sports Minister Sunil Dutt said on Friday that lack of a sports culture was responsible for the country's poor showing at the international level.

"We all go out to have pizzas and other fast food. How many of us voluntarily go to a sports ground or take our children there?" the minister asked while speaking to reporters here.
According to him, a mindset change was required if Indians were to perform well at international events.
"Till there is respect and opportunity for sportsmen, no one would be willing to enter this field," Dutt contended.
He said enough talent was available in India for being groomed as international sports stars. For this, he advocated advanced academies where sportsmen could fine-tune themselves while simultaneously carrying on with their studies.
