Briefing reporters onboard the Prime Minister's special aircraft, Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao said: "We have on many occasions spoken and expressed our hope and expectation that Pakistan will continue to safeguard its nuclear assets in manner that it poses threat to our region. The Russian side is also sensitized on this issue."

In the wake of a recent attempted strike on the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex near Kamra where it is believed some of Pakistan's nuclear assets are kept, India had expressed concerns over the safety of Pakistan's nuclear assets.

Pakistan and the US, however, said there was no threat to the nuclear arsenal and that Pakistan's security forces were well equipped to secure the safety of the country's nuclear bombs.

Pakistan's track record of illegal non proliferation by A. Q. Khan and its endorsement of a nuclear bomb as an Islamic bomb by terrorist groups are causing flutter in both New Delhi and Moscow.
