India should take a cue from China, get bullet trains

India, which boasts of operating the world's largest and busiest railway network, can benefit from the bullet train model.

With reference to Reshma Patil's article Such a short journey (Sunday Special, February 14), it's fascinating to learn of the immense success of bullet trains in China. India, which boasts of operating the world's largest and busiest railway network, can benefit from the bullet train model. If properly implemented, it will solve passengers' woes by providing a faster and safer travelling option. With the success of the Metro, the government should now consider bringing bullet trains to India, which will help decongest our air traffic and hugely benefit the tourism industry.
