Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi who is on a 10-day tour of Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, gave this assurance at a reception in Melbourne, organised by the Federation of Indian Association of Victoria (FIAV).

During his interaction with the Indian community, the minister was informed about the hardship the students faced from unscrupulous Indian agents working as recruiting officers for fraudulent educational institutions in Australia, according to a ministry press release Thursday.

The minister said such practices of unscrupulous agents sully the image of India in Australia and act against promoting educational ties between both countries.

Ravi also invited the Indian community to attend the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, the annual conclave of Indian diaspora to be held in New Delhi in January next year.

Ravi also met the Lord Mayor of Melbourne, John So and discussed matters of mutual interest including ties between the cities of Melbourne and Delhi in the context of the Commonwealth Games in 2010.
