India trailed 0-1 at half time but came back strongly after the break with three goals from skipper Surinder Kaur (43rd), Saba Anjum (64th minute) and Rani Rampal (69th minute).
The lone Black Sticks goal came in the 21st minute when Piki Hamahona struck on a rebound.
India also had their share of chances in the first half but couldn't convert any of them.
However, the team found its rhythm in the second half and put away three field goals.
Surinder scored from a deflection in the 43rd minute before Saba Anjum flicked one in from close range in the 64th minute.
Rani then sealed the series win with a breakaway goal right on full-time.
India won the first Test in Palmerston North a week ago. The second Test in Palmerston North and the third Test in Napier ended in draws.
The fifth and final Test would be played Wellington on Saturday.
