A 22-year-old illegal Indian immigrant has died in a Ukrainian hospital due to meningitis.

An illegal Indian immigrant has died in a Ukrainian hospital due to meningitis after he was detained at the country's western border with Slovakia.

Twenty-two-year-old immigrant, whose name was not disclosed, was detained by the Ukrainian border guards on the border with Slovakia, according to ITAR Tass.

He had very high temperature and the border guards provided him with first aid and admitted him to the local hospital in Mukachevo town, where he died of meningitis, it said.

The Indian embassy in Kiev has been informed by Ukrainian authorities.

In a separate incident, six Indian illegal immigrants have been detained on the northern sector of Ukraine's border with Russia.

One of the illegals left behind at the no-man's-land on the border by his comrades was picked up by the border guards and has been hospitalised in Schors town with the diagnosis of bleeding ulcer.
