Kumarapillai Neelakantan, 50, died and another Bangladeshi worker was critically injured after they fell from the sixth floor of a hotel under construction last month. Both the men were working for the Bahrain-based Bramco Group at the time of the accident.

"Neelakantan's family received around BD 5,000, including a settlement of BD 2,400 and compensation of BD 2,500," Bramco group vice-president of finance Jalaj Anand told Gulf Daily News.

Colleagues of Neelakantan have also collected around BD 800 separately for his family.

Earlier, the Bramco group and Al Hedaya Contractors, a local contractor, were reluctant to take the responsibility for the accident.

Al Hedaya Contractors managing director Syed Yousif had said earlier that his company was not responsible because the workers involved were sub-contractors from another firm.
