An intense cold waveon Sundaygripped the mid and higher hills of Himachal Pradesh as high altitude areas in tribal areas of Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti and Pangi had another spell of moderate snowfall.
Strong velocity surface winds swept the mid and higher hills causing a sharp fall in day temperature with the sky remaining partially overcast.
The minimum temperature ranged between minus eight and minus 15 in the twin tribal valleys of Lahaul and Spiti, chilling people to the bones.
The Kunzum pass, linking Lahaul with Spiti was closed while the Rohtang pass, the gateway to Lahaul valley, was still open.
The minimum temperature stood at a low of 4.8 degrees Celsius at Mashobra near Shimla while Sundernagar and Bhuntar reeled under severe cold wave conditions with minimum temperatures staying at 3.6 and 2.3 degrees Celsius respectively.
