A two-day international conference on the issues of Dalits and minorities has been convened in the Capital next month under the auspices of Ram Vilas Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party (LJP).

The theme of the conference is 'Power to the powerless' and it will discuss strategies for empowerment of the downtrodden among these communities.

According to Paswan, the meet, which begins on December 27, is likely to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

About 500 delegates from India and abroad—Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Burukus of Japan and Red Indians from the US—are expected to attend the conference.

At a meeting of representatives of these communities who discussed arrangements for the conference, a resolution was also passed demanding reopening of the trial of Mohammad Afzal, the Parliament attack case accused who has been given death sentence.
