For Ira and her family this was no mean task. The mentally challenged girl who has been swimming for the last four years had been practicing at Upper Lake for the last one week, for this event. Ira’s mother, Nishi Parihar, has been giving Ira important tips on swimming.
“Today it was like routine practice for Ira and she made me proud,” said her father Kumar Sambhav Parihar. Ira started today’s course from VIP Road and after swimming almost 700 m without a break, ended her journey at Sheetal Das Ki Baghiya.
A spectator at the venue, Salim appreciating Ira’s grit said, “Despite being mentally challenged she swam 700 m which makes her different from others.”
When asked about her future plans, her father Kumar said he wanted to see Ira swim in the sea. “I hope she will demonstrate her swimming talent in the sea in the near future,” said Parihar.
IG Sanjeev Kumar Singh, Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor Sunil Sood and others were present, on the occasion.
