It needs to pour for 12 days to end water woes

It may have poured over the weekend and on Wednesday, but for Mumbai to tide over the water crisis, we need at least another 12 days of heavy rain. That’s how long it will take for the six lakes that supply water to the city to fill up.

However, the civic body does not plan to increase water cuts in residential areas (it’s already 30 per cent). It has decided to supply treated drinking water from Powai lake and increase the water cut for bulk users, like five-star hotels and industries, to 60 per cent. It has also ordered all swimming pools to stay shut till the water crisis ends.
