Candidates allege anomalies in selection process, seek governor’s intervention

Padam Kant had five years of teaching experience in 2004. This year, he claims to have 14+8 years (22 years) experience with 22 research publications to his credit.
Kavita Chaturvedi didn’t complete her PhD nor had she cleared NET/SLET. She was shortlisted. But, a candidate was rejected with a similar disqualification.
These are just two cases in point to explain gross anomaly in the selection for vacant posts in various departments of Lucknow University. However, the executive council will stamp the seal of approval in Thursday meeting. But, the way these candidates have been shortlisted tells a story as to how rules are bent for the chosen few.
Objecting to the alleged anomalies, a number of candidates vying for the posts have shot a missive to Governor-Chancellor seeking his intervention in the issue. The complainants are armed with sufficient documents that prove how rules were flouted by the committee.
The memorandum submitted to Raj Bhawan reads that Padam Kant had four publications to his credit when he first faced the selection committee in 2004. But in 2006, the number of his research publication swelled to 23 (18+5). Also, when the committee held this month for appointing professor (SC), he was the only SC candidate who appeared.
Interestingly, Padam Kant who claimed to having a teaching experience of 22 years actually started teaching in 1998 when he was appointed reader in Chemistry Department at Gorakhpur University, sources allege. Prior to that he was serving at the Geological Survey of India (GSI) from October 1984. Also Kant did not produce a no objection certificate from Gorakhpur University authorities while facing the committee.
When contacted Padam Kant said: “I’ve explained my stand to the selection committee and would not like to speak on the issue as it is a confidential matter.
Right now I’m at Gorakhpur and would answer to the queries only after he comes down to Lucknow. Also a few candidates for lecturer in Botany allegedly produced fake papers to seek appointment against reserved posts.”
