"Chief Secretary Madhav Lal instructed the officers to ensure uninterrupted power supply, water supply and sanitation in and around secretariat employees’ residential quarters," an official spokesman said on Monday.

Lal also directed the various heads of departments of Kashmir division to ensure all possible facilities for the employees, coming with annual darbar move to Srinagar, he said.

He asked the Director Estates to complete all the repair and renovation work going apace in the secretariat and government quarters before the offices move here, the spokesman said.

The civil secretariat moves twice each year from Srinagar to Jammu and back as part of a princely tradition to escape to warm areas ahead of the chilling winter in the valley.

The government shifts its base again in summer to Srinagar where the heat is milder compared to Jammu.
