Jaitley to attend investors meet in London

Union finance minister Arun Jaitley will be the first minister of the Narendra Modi -led BJP government to visit London when he comes here for an investors meet in October, official sources told HT.

Union finance minister Arun Jaitley will be the first minister of the Narendra Modi -led BJP government to visit London when he comes here for an investors meet in October, official sources told HT.

Dates for the visit are being finalised but Jaitley is expected to arrive in Britain around October 13 for a two-day visit that will include talks with Chancellor George Osborne as well as Defence Secretary Michael Fallon.

Jaitley also holds the defence portfolio.

Soon after Jaitley’s visit, minister for external affairs, Sushma Swaraj, is scheduled to open the Regional Pravasi Bharatiya Divas.

Prime Minister Modi is not likely to visit Britain this year, but efforts are on to ensure his presence to inaugurate a new Mahatma Gandhi statue in Parliament Square in January. next year.

There have been two high profile visits by British ministers after the Modi government assumed office.

British Prime Minister David Cameron is also likely to make a stopover in New Delhi when he attends the G20 summit in Brisbane, Australia, on November 15 and 6.
