The 36-year-old Jayasuriya was originally omitted from the 16-man squad for the triangular series in Australia after aggravating a shoulder injury in a freak bathroom accident during Sri Lanka's tour of New Zealand earlier this month.

"Having returned to Sri Lanka, Jayasuriya has been receiving treatment and has been cleared to bat, bowl and field after a fitness test on Wednesday," a media statement confirmed on Thursday, adding that the player had already left for Australia.

Jayasuriya is one of just four batsman to have scored more than 10,000 runs in one-day cricket and is Sri Lanka's most-capped player with 342 limited over match appearances.

Sri Lankan selectors have also called up seam bowler Akalanka Ganegama to replace all rounder Farveez Maharoof, who is returning home from Australia because of a groin injury.

Last picked in 2001, the 24-year-old Ganegama earned a recall to the national squad after impressing selectors in domestic competition.

Having split their opening two matches, Sri Lanka's next game in the series with Australia and South Africa is against the hosts in Sydney on Sunday.
