Jhanu Hansda sets new world record in archery

The ace archer created a new compound world record by shooting 1405 points, bettering the previous record of 1402 points set by Jamie Van Natta of USA.

Ace archer Jhanu Hansda created a new compound world record by shooting 1405 points, bettering the previous record of 1402 points set by Jamie Van Natta of USA, on the second day of the three-day selection trial for the Indian team at JRD Tata Sports Complex.

Jhanu, who had accumulated a total 1394 points yesterday, surpassed Natta's world mark created at Colarado, USA in February in the senior women's compound division.

The local girl displayed scintillating performance scoring close to world mark in all distances.

She displayed her skill in securing 348 points in the 70-metre against France's Valerie Fabre world mark of 349.

In the 60-meter distance, Jhanu came close to world record holder British archer Moir Katy's 349 points set in Mauscron, Belgium in 2001, scoring 348.

Jhanu fell two points short of world record 352 in 50-meter and scored 356 points against world record holder Zorn Mary's (USA) 360 points in the 30-meter distance.

In the senior compound round, Jharkhand archers continued to dominate the proceedings and bagged all the top four slots.

Jhanu was followed by her team-mates K H Bhagyabati Chanu (1346), Sweety Kumari (1333) and Sakro Besra (1326).
