His resignation has been accepted with immediate effect, according to University sources. He had joined as vice-chancellor in January this year but his tenure was mired in controversies. According to sources, Prof O P Agrawal (Dean, Life Sciences) has been appointed as acting V-C of the University till further orders.

Registrar Anand Mishra said that the Governors office has asked for a list of professors in order of their seniority, which has since been sent.

Singh is the third V-C of the varsity, who did not complete his tenure. Earlier, Dr. Satya Prakash and RR Das were removed from their posts. His resignation comes barely with in 24 hours of the Governor’s warning to those V-Cs whose names have been dragged into corruption or criminal cases. Vice Chancellor was in the eye of the storm over the B.Ed college corruption issue.

Jakhar had on Thursday said during his address to the V-Cs of universities of West Zone that he would deal with such cases firmly.
