In a move guaranteed to bring a measure of relief to residents, the district administration has dispensed with the need to
furnish the old document while applying for new ration cards.

In a statement issued here, district Food Controller B P Kasat announced that old ration cards would automatically become void upon the issuance of new ones. Strict action would be taken against PDS shop owners who refuse to honour the new ration cards, he added.

Kasat appealed to residents to cooperate in the preparation of new ration cards. The Food Controller announced that a special control room had been set up to assist in the issuance of new cards.

The control room will remain open from 10 am to 10 pm and anyone encountering difficulties in obtaining the cards can get his grievances redressed by calling up 2449129. It may be recalled that the Union Food and Civil Supplies Ministry recently ordered the replacement of all existing ration cards after a survey conducted by ORG-Marg threw up the existence of lakhs of fake cards in the State.
