Viveik Oberoi’s visit to Lilavati Hospital to enquire about Salman Khan’s health, and subsequent visit to his residence to pay respects to Salim Khan has made as much news as the rejection of Salman’s first bail application. Does this take the blossoming friendship between the onetime estranged actors a step closer? Industry sources certainly think so.
The love triangle and the bitterness surrounding it reached a peak two years ago. The 41 threatening calls made from Salman’s mobile to Viveik’s became a national obsession, as both fought evidently for the attentions of Aishwarya Rai (Oberoi played hero in a press conference and made public the charges). Sallu may have remained silent, but things hardly ended there.
Later, when Suresh Oberoi met Salman, their conversation was brief. “He told Salman to let bygones be bygones and sort out his differences with Viveik” says an industry insider. “But Salman told him, ‘I respect you as a senior and have no problem with you. But please don’t ask for the impossible’.”
Now that Ash is out of both their lives, Salman’s weekend in prison seems to have made the ‘impossible’ possible. The two actors are reportedly in constant touch, via SMS.
An actor, who has worked with both Salman and Viveik, says: “Two years is some time to get over the initial hatred. Viveik went to meet Salman’s parents as a goodwill gesture. Salman has come to know about it, too.” But will the two forgo their enmity completely? “The anger has cooled down,” says the actor. “It’s difficult to say if they’ll be friends. But then, nothing is impossible.”
Besides, like in our movies, we are all suckers for happy endings.
