Congratulating the Indian contingent for its good showing at the Busan Asian Games, Indian Olympic Association president Suresh Kalmadi today said the performance was the beginning of India's quest for greater sporting glory.

"This is just the beginning. We will have to identify the events and commence training for Afro-Asian Games 2003, Olympic Games 2004 and Asian Games 2006," Kalmadi said in a statement here.

"I particularly congratulate the athletic squad for earning 17 medals including seven gold. I also congratulate the women athletes who have done India proud," he said.

Expressing his delight over Indians winning medals in 11 disciplines, Kalmadi urged the government to provide more budgetary support and also requested the corporate sector to increase their funding in order to develop India as a major sporting power in Asia.
