In a gruesome incident, robbers locked a woman and her daughter in their house in Etawah during an alleged burglary bid and set it on fire in the wee hours of Monday.
The police recovered their charred remains from a locked store-room of the house on Ramleela road. They have called for forensic experts to find out the apparent cause of the homicide.
The deceased have been identified as Pratibha Shukla, 62 and Deepa Shukla, 40. The latter had been serving as a teacher with a primary school in Jaswant Nagar. Her mother Pratibha had recently retired as a school teacher.
Deepa had been unmarried and staying with her mother in their ancestral house.
The incident came to light when the neighbours saw thick smoke billowing out of the house and informed the police.
"The forensic team will help the police in reconstruct of how the murder was executed. We are waiting for the post mortem report to get a clear picture," said Rajesh Modak, SSP Eatwah.
